Münchenstein – A diversity that brings people together
Due to the structure of housing that has developed over time, Münchenstein presents very different faces, each with its own characteristics. The municipality, with over 12,000 inhabitants, has more than 900 years of history behind it. The village-like character and natural relaxation space are combined with urban housing and modern economic areas – a diversity that brings people together.
Despite the integration into an urban environment and the city of Birsstadt, many single-family homes, duplexes, and small apartment buildings continue to shape our image.
We take care of our Birspark landscape, on the banks of the Birs River that gave us its name. Additionally, the Brüglingen plain, one of the largest urban green spaces in Switzerland, is located on the land of Münchenstein. It is here that you'll find the highly cherished Parc Pré Vert, the historic Villa Merian, as well as numerous sports facilities, including the FC Basel junior campus.
Münchenstein offers a wide and varied range of education, from kindergarten to high school. Great importance is placed on extracurricular and after-school care. Furthermore, we are a university location with the University of Art and Design (HGK) at the Dreispitz site, as well as a university site with sports institutions in the St. area.

Aufgrund der historisch gewachsenen Siedlungsstruktur weist Münchenstein ganz unterschiedliche Gesichter auf – jedes mit seiner eigenen Charakteristik. Die Gemeinde mit ihren über 12‘000 Bewohnerinnen und Bewohnern blickt auf eine über 900-jährige Geschichte zurück. Dörflicher Charakter und natürlicher Erholungsraum werden mit urbanem Wohn- und modernem Wirtschaftsraum vereint – verbindende Vielfalt eben.
Trotz der Einbettung in ein städtisches Umfeld und in die Birsstadt prägen nach wie vor zahlreiche Ein-, Zwei- und kleine Mehrfamilienhäuser unser Erscheinungsbild.
Wir tragen Sorge zu unserer Birspark-Landschaft am Ufer der namensgebenden Birs. Zudem befindet sich mit der Brüglinger Ebene eine der grössten urbanen Grünanlagen der Schweiz auf Münchensteiner Boden. Hier befindet sich der äusserst beliebte Park im Grünen, die historische Villa Merian sowie zahlreiche Sportanlagen inklusive dem Junioren-Campus des FC Basel.
Münchenstein bietet ein grosses und breites Bildungsangebot vom Kindergarten bis zum Gymnasium. Auf eine familien- und schulergänzende Betreuung wird hoher Wert gelegt. Des Weiteren sind wir Hochschulstandort mit der Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst (HGK) auf dem Dreispitz-Areal und Uni-Standort mit den Sportinstitutionen im Gebiet St. Jakob.

ARRIVAL: Fribourg
Welcome to Fribourg for the 78th edition of the Tour de Romandie! A cosmopolitan and university town steeped in history and culture, and renowned for its gastronomy, Fribourg also loves cycling and sport in general. With almost 100 sports clubs, including the Vélo-Club Fribourg cycling club – founded in 1905 – the capital of the canton is welcoming the Tour de Romandie for the 28th time since its first edition in 1947. 2025 is also the centenary of the internationally recognised Fribourg-born artist Jean Tinguely. So this edition will have a cultural aspect, especially when the Tour passes through the Bourg historic neighbourhood, near the Espace Jean Tinguely-Niki de Saint Phalle Museum.
